Pilates

PILATES is a “mind-body” method of exercise that trains the body to move and function more efficiently by engaging the breath in every movement. This system emphasizes correct spinal alignment, pelvic and scapular stability, core strength, biomechanics, balance, coordination and flexibility. Pilates exercises puts your muscles – especially the smaller, stabilizing ones – under constant tension over a large range of motion to create longer, leaner muscles and a stronger core.

Marie Pilates Leg Up

“Contrology develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit.” – Joseph Pilates

Joseph Pilates believed that exercises performed with precision and self-awareness, were the anecdote to chronic pain and imbalance. He taught that the “harmony between mental and physical,” or the quality of our focus and awareness creates our current physical condition. Other benefits include: relief from back pain, greater mobility and fluidity of movement, stress reduction and relaxation, better balance and coordination, improved concentration and focus, Injury prevention and rehabilitation, weight loss, increased stamina and overall wellbeing.

Someone asked me recently what I’m most proud of. Without hesitating I replied, “My progress in Pilates.” I then explained how my personal Pilates coaching with Marie is unlocking my tight and uncomfortable body after a two year recuperation from a broken femur which now has a titanium rod and screws. As I strengthen my core muscles I am able to take longer walks and enjoy what I love: hiking, walking, gardening and Tai Ji. .. Patricia Chandler .. More testimonials
